The web site uses the term 'core financials' - what does this term mean?
Core financials is an industry term used to describe the primary financial accounting software modules of general ledger, account payable, accounts receivable and sometimes fixed assets. The financial suite is usually separated from the distribution software suite which includes purchase order processing, sales order processing and inventory management.
What are the differences between project accounting and job cost?
While we're not aware of any industry accepted or universally accepted definitions for these two terms, project accounting is a cost accounting method normally associated with the professional services industry. In this context, projects are often associated with client engagements. Job cost is also a cost accounting method but is more commonly associated with inventory-based companies and manufacturing processes.
How do you define and separate client/server and software as a service ERP systems?
We define client/server applications as those programs which segregate the database logic, application logic and presentation logic between an on-premise client and a sever. While the majority of client/server applications tend to place almost all database logic on the server, split the application logic between the server and the client and use a fat-client approach (placing significant processing on the PC) for presentation processing, it's really not relevant how the application processing is distributed in terms of defining the business application as a client/server application. We define software as a service applications as those systems that may be procured with a subscription pricing model, are centrally hosted at data centers, delivered over the Internet and operated through a web browser.

At this point, we suspect the next version of the ERP Software REPORT will be available in the first calendar quarter. The first quarter is when we typically release each new version of this report.
